Sugar, spice and everything nice is taking place in the GT Second Grade Math sessions. Students recently worked to create their own imaginary candy store. They were responsible for multi-step as well as real-world problem solving. Attending to precision was key! In the ending reflection students noted: "This was the most challenging project this year." "Even though I did not get through as much as I wanted, I learned so much!" "This was hard but fun. I want to do more." And it doesn't hurt that the students learned how to make candy (and enjoy it!). The Candy Store unit (part 1) can be found here:Standards:

Enjoy some of their work from this unit: student-made shape books, 2D atypical shapes, 3D printing 3D shapes, classifying complex shapes and loads of fun!The 4th Grade GT Literacy group has just wrapped up an extensive unit studying Ancient Rome, Egypt and Greece. The students read in-depth articles, engaged in discussions (relying on CRE) around social structures, researched the role of mythology in societal progression and investigated what makes a civilization successful and so much more... To culminate their work, students took a summative assessment, engaged in a Socratic Seminar and took part in our Ancient Civilization Celebration. Here are some photos from their celebration activities:

The Fifth Grade GT Math group has been exploring the Real Number System ending the unit with an Engineering Design Challenge. For the challenge, students had to use their knowledge of the Cartesian coordinate system to create a board game to play with friends and family. Their final products were mathematically sound works of art. Standards:
